bp Appoints Elkhan Mammadov as New Senior Vice President for Production

bp has announced the appointment of Elkhan Mammadov as Senior Vice President (SVP) for Production, effective from December 2, 2024. In this role, Elkhan Mammadov will be responsible for managing bp’s global upstream production operations and will be based in bp’s London office. He will report to Gordon Birrell, Executive Vice President for Production and Operations. Currently, Elkhan Mammadov is the Vice President for Production in the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye (AGT) region, where he has led the AGT production organization for several years.

Elkhan Mammadov joined bp in 2001 as an instrumentation technician on the “Chirag” platform. He later worked on various bp platforms in the North Sea and Caspian Sea before becoming the manager of the “Chirag” platform. In 2009, he was appointed as the Onshore Operations Manager for bp in Azerbaijan, and since June 2013, he has served as the Operations Manager for the “Azeri” field. Throughout his career, Elkhan Mammadov has focused on the safety and efficiency of oil and gas production.

In 2011, Elkhan Mammadov completed the Operations Academy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA, and received the prestigious Paul Martins Award for his excellence in operations. He is the chair of the Operations Discipline Forum for bp’s Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye region and co-chair of the region’s Technical Forum. Elkhan Mammadov’s dedication to high safety standards and operational excellence has made him a prominent leader in the oil and gas industry.

Gary Jones, bp’s Regional President for AGT, praised Elkhan Mammadov’s leadership: “Elkhan is a highly respected leader, known for his passion for safety and the connection and trust he builds with colleagues, teams, and external stakeholders. Under his leadership, the teams have been operating bp’s Caspian offshore and onshore facilities with remarkable safety performance and world-class efficiency and reliability. Earlier this year, he oversaw the safe start-up of bp’s most technologically advanced platform, Azeri Central East – bp’s seventh platform in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field. I would like to thank Elkhan for everything he has done for AGT and wish him success in his new role.”

In 2014, Elkhan Mammadov was awarded the “Progress” medal by the President of Azerbaijan for his contributions to the development of the country’s oil and gas industry. He is married and has three children.
