Planning Begins for the 2026 Tennessee Celebration of International Human Rights Day

  • Tennessee United for Human Rights and partner organizations kick off preparations for this year’s annual gathering honoring advocates for equality, dignity, and justice

NASHVILLE, TN, Sep 03, 2026, ZEX PR WIRE — Tennessee United for Human Rights (TnUHR) has officially begun planning for the 2026 Tennessee Celebration of International Human Rights Day, the organization’s flagship annual event bringing together community leaders, nonprofits, and Tennesseans from across the state to commemorate International Human Rights Day.

Held each December, the celebration honors individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing human rights in their communities through three award categories: Rising Advocate, Outstanding Service, and Lifetime Achievement. Past honorees have included educators, elected officials, grassroots organizers, and youth advocates whose work spans issues from Indigenous rights and school desegregation to housing security, gun violence prevention, and immigrant protections.

The event is organized each year by a coalition of human rights organizations, nonprofits, and advocates. Committee members have included the Human Relations Commission, the United Nations Association Nashville Cordell-Hull Chapter, Tennessee United for Human Rights, the Scarritt Bennett Center, the Church of Scientology, and others across Middle Tennessee.

Details on the 2026 event, including the date, venue, theme, and nomination process for this year’s honorees, will be announced in the coming months. Community members interested in nominating an honoree, sponsoring the event, hosting an information booth, performing, or volunteering are encouraged to visit TnUHR.org for updates as planning progresses.

Information on past Human Rights Day celebrations, including honoree profiles, event photos, and program booklets going back to 2009, is available at www.tnuhr.org.
