STMicroelectronics beats quarterly profit forecasts as semiconductor demand recovers
GENEVA, Switzerland, October 29, 2026, ZEX PR WIRE — STMicroelectronics reported stronger than expected third quarter operating profit on Thursday, supported by improving demand across several semiconductor markets, including artificial intelligence data centres and satellite communications. The Franco-Italian chipmaker also issued a fourth quarter revenue forecast above analyst expectations, suggesting that the recovery in parts of the semiconductor industry is gaining momentum.

Operating income excluding one-time charges reached $429 million, representing a 98% increase from the previous year. The result exceeded the $400.5 million expected by analysts surveyed by LSEG.
Semiconductor demand shows signs of improvement
STMicroelectronics produces a broad range of components, including microcontrollers, sensors and power semiconductors. These products are used in automotive systems, industrial machinery, consumer electronics and communications infrastructure.
The latest results indicate that demand is improving across several of these markets. Sales of communications equipment, computer peripherals and personal electronics contributed to the quarterly performance.
Demand associated with AI data centres has also supported the business. Although STMicroelectronics is not primarily known for producing the advanced processors used to train AI models, its components can support power management, connectivity and other functions required by modern computing infrastructure.
Fourth quarter outlook exceeds expectations
The company forecast fourth quarter revenue of approximately $4.15 billion, with a possible variation of 3.5% in either direction. This was above the analyst consensus of $4.10 billion and compared with third quarter revenue of $3.76 billion.
The outlook suggests that management expects demand to remain relatively strong through the end of the year.
Chief Executive Jean-Marc Chery indicated that demand remains above available supply in certain areas, prompting the company to expand capacity in line with its longer term plans.
What investors will monitor next
STMicroelectronics’ results provide an important signal for the broader semiconductor industry, particularly in markets beyond high performance AI processors.
Investors will be watching whether demand continues to recover in automotive and industrial applications, whether supply constraints affect customer deliveries and how effectively the company manages manufacturing capacity.
The stronger outlook also raises questions about the sustainability of the recovery. Semiconductor demand can change quickly as customers adjust inventories and investment plans.
For now, the company’s earnings indicate improving conditions across several end markets, supported by both traditional electronics demand and newer infrastructure requirements.
