Building Community Through Gaming: Celebrating Black History Month Virtually Online
San Antonio, Texas, United States, 5th February 2021, ZEXPRWIRE: With the rising awareness of discrimination, Black history is just as necessary now as it has ever been. 2020 brought with it not only COVID-19 but more attention to acts of racial bias and systemic racism. Events of last year highlighted the need for more historically accurate narratives.
Since April 2020, Melaneyes Media an independent film company based in San Antonio, TX, has been hosting online forums and conversations centered around doing just that; changing the narrative. By going live on Zoom over the past 40 weeks, the group has presented culturally enriching virtual presentations and film screenings, helping thousands better understand the African American experience.
The month of February is traditionally recognized as Black History Month and the Melaneyes team has something special planned for their supporters.
They will begin hosting their weekly Black History Game Night every Sunday night at 7:00 PM (CT) during the month of February. COVID-19 has changed the way the world now operates. Being that so many activities are now being offered virtually, Black History Family Game Night is no different.
Aundar Ma’at and Logic Allah, co-founders of the company and hosts of the event, use word association challenges, trivia questions, and picture puzzles to help participants learn, while reinforcing the idea of Black heritage and pride. The two want to use gaming to provide a bonding experience for families and individuals willing to test their knowledge.
Ma’at believes that “Learning about our history should be enlightening and fun at the same time.”
Those interested in joining the virtual festivities can register via Eventbrite or by visiting the Melaneyes Media webpage: melaneyesmedia.
