Laoag, US, 14th Jan 2022, ZEXPRWIRE, The mayor of Laoag led the launch of the city’s booster rollout on Monday, 10 January, marking another milestone in his administration’s pandemic response.

Setting an example to his constituents, the 67-year-old Michael Marcos Keon sat down to get his booster shot after ensuring that 500 doses of Covid-19 vaccines are available for the launch. Keon’s vaccination team held the booster drive at the Laoag City General Hospital (LCGH).

Laoag City has one of the most successful vaccination rollouts in the Ilocano provinces and it has started to move fast with the boosters. Keon reached his vaccination target in 2021 and by early January, he urged the people of Laoag to fill out an online registration form for their booster shot schedules.

“We are on top of the situation and we will control the spread of COVID-19 here in Laoag,” Keon told the Philippine News Agency.

“This is why it is important for people to come and get their booster shot. People can register online, through the vaccination team at the City Hall, or at the LCGH,” he added.

Laoag saw an increase in Covid-19 cases in the past few days that is why Keon has been encouraging residents to book their booster shot appointments. On his official Facebook page, the mayor said in a mix of Ilocano and English that the residents of Laoag need more protection from Covid-19.

Keon also said in a statement that vaccines are rolling into the northern city to make sure that there is enough for everyone. His office coordinated with the Department of Health’s Regional Office for vaccine supplies.

“Last week, we received 2,316 vials of AstraZeneca vaccine which is good for 23,160 doses; 1,170 vials of Pfizer vaccine which is good for 7,020 doses; 1,000 vials of Moderna vaccines which is good for 20,000 booster shots and 1,500 ampoules of Gamaleya Sputnik V vaccine,” Keon said.
