Suicide Prevention Advocate and Speaker Toby Ramirez-Johnson announces the release of her book, The Last 7 Days: Suicide – A Sibling’s Perspective, chronicling the last days spent with her brother who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. The book is available in both paperback and instant download and may be purchased through the author’s website at https://www.keepourtroopsalive.org/ or in Kindle format through Amazon.
Book synopsis …
In 2012, the CDC reported a total of 40,000 suicides in the United States. In that same year, the Veteran Affairs Suicide Data Report released that there were twenty-two veteran suicides a day, resulting in 8,030 deaths. My brother, Sergeant Kenneth Saavedra Jr., is included in those statistics.
This book offers unexpected transparency and honesty by the author as she gives a voice to the millions of families who have lost a loved one to suicide while reflecting on her personal experience.
As Founder & CEO of the nonprofit organization, Keep Our Troops Alive (KOTA), Ramirez-Johnson collaborates with civic groups, mental health experts, and like-minded professionals, to provide support to families of military personnel and combat veterans impacted by the devastating effect of depression, PTSD, and suicide. In acknowledgment of National Suicide Awareness Month, during September, she will be available for media interviews and as a guest speaker for special events.
