Pick your IB subjects wisely, says Dr Anil Khare
Dubai, UAE, 6th Oct 2021, ZEXPRWIRE – Once the decision to take IB has been made, the thing that vexes the students and confuses their parents is the daunting task of choosing 6 subjects from the IBDP subject groups, and deciding whether to go SL or HL in them as required by the IB. “Google it” is the common advice. However, Google doesn’t have all the answers. Even though online research provides information on the available subjects, it is always beneficial to speak to an expert to get the confusion cleared.
Dr Anil Khare, IB Specialist and top educational and career counsellor in Dubai, emphasises on the importance of choosing subjects wisely. Seated in his office on the 18th floor of Al Moosa Tower 2, he elaborates, “The task of picking the right subjects to study in IB should not be taken lightly. It is imperative to choose well and to choose wise. We know that it is easier to study something that interests us, or what we have a passion for. At the same time, the subject chosen must be relevant and should help the student build a strong base for their future studies as well as a promising career.”
Explaining further, he says, “While choosing subjects, ask yourselves about what you like studying, what you do not favour, and what you enjoy challenging yourself in. For subjects that you feel motivated to challenge yourself in, and feel rewarded when you are able to solve it, go for HL (High Level). Similarly, for those subjects that you like but do not particularly want to study at an advanced level, go for SL (Standard Level). Simply put, choose those subjects that you would want to spend time on.”
Every year, thousands of students flock to Dr Anil Khare to find answers to all their IB-related queries. In his counselling sessions, he guides students in different stages of the IB programme, from PYP to MYP to the IBDP. Right from the many benefits of doing the IB, choosing subjects, answering questions on the unique elements of IB, to university selection for study abroad, Dr Anil Khare is the man with all the answers. During his guidance sessions for new IB joinees, he converses with the student to understand where their interest lie, the subjects that they would excel in, and tries to align it with what is good in terms of a promising career. He is a profound example of the fact that success follows passion and hard work. His counsel for students is along the same lines.
